Hot Tub Cover

When we moved into our newest house we discovered, happily, that the hot tub that came with the house was functioning! We used it all spring, summer,  and fall, then this winter (of course in the winter!) the cover that came with the hot tub fell apart, breaking into pieces. Lovely. Steam escaping into the -20 degree weather we had.  After some searching on YouTube I found a video about how to, for under $100, make our own cover. For us, the $600+ price tag for a brand new cover was out of our price range.
Here is the old cover tossed aside and now covered with snow...

We started this project with materials all picked up from home depot for $87.
2  4x8  pieces of foam board 2 1/2 inches thick
2  4x8  pieces of plywood about 1/2 inch thick
4  hinges approximately 3 inches
4 inch wide tape that has a weave
White primer paint (less than 1 quart)
1 tube of foam board adhesive

We cut down the plywood and the foam board to the size of our hot tub.  Then we painted the wood with the paint.  We gave each side 2 coats.  We laid the foam board on the ground, then put the adhesive on the boards.  We made sure to get the adhesive on the edges as well as the center.  Then we put the plywood boards on the foam boards.  We left them to adhere for 24 hours.  We applied tape across each part of the foam on the edges.  We also put a piece of tape across the center where the space is between the boards.  We added 4 hinges, equally spaced, across the boards.  3 handles were added on one side of the board to be able to pull it onto the hot tub.  Last we used a cover to protect the wood further.
